ASTRA FILM FESTIVAL (AFF), is a major event in the European film community and Romania's leading documentary festival. It is located in the Transylvanian city of Sibiu and it is unique in this part of Europe. The Festival champions that particular type of engaged cinema, which produces a detailed and intimate account of the human condition in the form of powerful cinematic stories. AFF, which came into being 27 years ago, prides itself with having established a consequential framework for the development of documentary cinema in Central&Eastern Europe and having reinforced a platform for emerging filmmakers in Romania and in the entire region by providing networking opportunities as well as national and international visibility for their work. AFF is the right spot to feel the pulse of the documentary film production in the region. The programme features curated thematic sections for a more effective outreach and various sidebars tailored to illustrate the diversity and the current tendencies of documentary cinema worldwide. A rich industry programme covers various aspects of documentary filmmaking from production to distribution.

DocumentaryTank@AFF, Astra Film Festival’s industry program, aims to encourage the development and growth of the Romanian and European documentary industry and of its current and future filmmakers, through tailored-made programs. Officially launched in 2016, the industry platform offers its specialist audience the opportunity to connect, learn, develop and network with their peers from Europe and beyond. The project development platform AstraFilmLab (previously RoDocs in Progress) aims to offer an auspicious avenue for filmmakers currently developing internationally relevant stories that originate in this part of Europe to present their work and develop professional networks.
